
Hanks his next film role was as an astronaut and commander Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks once more with Ron Howard. The film was widely lauded by critics and also by the performance of the entire cast (which comprised Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris), and Kathleen Quinlan. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, and it took home two. In the following year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. One year later, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the rise and fall of a 1960s-era pop group and also a role of a producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and most critics agreed that Hanksperformance was a worthy inclusion in the finest romantic comedy actors of the time.
